Guidelines for Clinical Centers

Staff

Transplant Team

A dedicated transplant team, including a Program Director and at least one other physician trained or experienced in transplantation medicine, must have been in place for at least one year. Requirements for team members and certain other individuals are detailed below.

Physician Staff

1. Director. The Program Director should be licensed and board-certified in at least one of the following specialties: hematology, medical oncology, immunology, and pediatric hematology/oncology. In addition, the Director must have had at least one year of specific clinical training or two years of experience (inpatient and outpatient) as an attending physician principally responsible for the clinical management of patients treated with hematopoietic transplantation.

2. Other Attending Physicians. It is recognized that other physicians who attend may have had varying degrees of the above elements of training; responsibility for overseeing the medical care provided by these physicians should be maintained by the Director. It is highly recommended that all attending physicians have training in transplantation medicine and that they be board-certified as outlined above.
