Aloha! The information on this page may help you prepare for your visit to Honolulu on the island of O'ahu for the 2006 BMT Tandem Meetings.
Record Attendance. Registration for the 2006 BMT Tandem Meetings has already set a record. As of Feb. 18 the registration was 2,027.
Weather. In February, the average high temperature in Honolulu is 80ºF (27ºC), and the average low temperature is 65ºF (18ºC). Rainfall in February averages 2.3 inches for the month. Honolulu has the least year-round temperature variation of any American city.
Time Zone. The Hawaiian Islands are in the Hawaii-Aleutian Daylight Time Zone. In February, Honolulu is 2 hours behind the U.S. Pacific Time Zone, 4 hours behind the Central Time Zone, 5 hours behind the Eastern Time Zone, and 10 hours behind Greenwich Mean Time.
Tours and Sightseeing. Professional help is available to BMT Tandem Meetings registrants for advance reservation of tours and pre- and post-meeting vacation packages: scenic and historic island tours, Diamond Head hike, helicopter flights, Atlantis submarine, whale watching and Polynesian shows. The possibilities can be perused online.
Car Rental. A discount on automobile rentals is available through Avis for BMT Tandem Meetings registrants, effective from one week before to one week after the meetings.
Airport Transfer. Honolulu International Airport (HNL) is about 7 miles or 15 minutes from Waikiki, the Hawaii Convention Center and the hotels being used by the BMT Tandem Meetings. The taxi fare from the airport to Waikiki during non-rush hour periods is approximately $25.00-$35.00. A shuttle bus to Waikiki hotels, operated by Roberts Hawaii, costs $8 one-way, $14 round trip. Meeting Location. All BMT Tandem Meetings events will be held at the Hawaii Convention Center, located at 1801 Kalakaua Avenue in Honolulu. Telephone: (808) 943-3500.
Headquarters Hotel. The headquarters hotel for the BMT Tandem Meetings is the Ala Moana Hotel, located across the street from the convention center at 410 Atkinson Drive. The telephone number for reaching hotel guests is (808) 955-4811 and the fax is (808) 944-2974.

Restaurant Reservations, Housing and On-Site Tour Assistance. Local hosts will staff information desks in the meeting registration area on Level III of the convention center to assist with restaurant reservations, tours and any problems with lodging. The hours of operation will be:
Wednesday, Feb. 15 – Noon - 6:00 pm
Thursday, Feb. 16 – 8:00 am - 6:00 pm
Friday, Feb. 17 – 8:00 am - 6:00 pm
Saturday, Feb. 18 – Noon - 6:00 pm
Sunday, Feb 19 – Noon - 6:00 pm
Welcome Reception. A gala welcome reception is a tradition of the BMT Tandem Meetings. This year the E KOMO MAI! welcome reception will be held at 7:00 pm Thursday, Feb. 16, in the rooftop garden of the Hawaii Convention Center.
Orientation for Fellows. Fellows-in-training attending the BMT Tandem Meetings for the fist time are invited to a coffee break and reception on the first day of the meetings – 10:00 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, in Meeting Room 307 of the Hawaii Convention Center.
International Visitors. Information for international travelers, including visa requirements and other Homeland Security procedures, is available on the CIBMTR and ASBMT Web sites.
Meeting Attire. Casual business/resort wear is appropriate for the entire five days of meetings.
Shopping. Located a block from the Hawaii Convention Center and attached to the BMT Tandem Meetings headquarters hotel is the Ala Moana Center, the world’s largest outdoor shopping center and Hawaii’s premier destination for shopping, dining and entertainment with 260 stores and 70 dining venues.
Hawaiian Fashions. Buy that perfect aloha shirt or muu muu at Hilo Hattie, the largest retail store for Hawaiian resort and casual fashions, gifts, souvenirs and food. Print out the online coupon for a free shuttle to Hilo Hattie and a free O'ahu mug. When you use the coupon, 10% of your purchase will be credited to support the BMT Tandem Meetings.
