Position Statements Issued
on Adult and Pediatric ALL

ASBMT has issued new position statements on the role of cytotoxic therapy with hematopoietic stem cell transplantation for acute lymphoblastic leukemia in adults and in children. 

The statements appear in the March 2006 issue of Biology of Blood and Marrow Transplantation and summarize the conclusions of recently published evidence-based reviews.

• The Position Statement on Adult ALL is based on an evidence-based review that was published in the January 2006 issue of BBMT.
   
• The Position Statement of Pediatric ALL is  based on an evidence-based review that was published in the November 2005 issue of BBMT.

The reviews are the latest in the ASBMT series on the role of cytotoxic therapy and BMT for specific diseases.  Previous reviews have addressed multiple myeloma and diffuse large cell B-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.

The reviews are prepared by expert panels that include medical specialists, transplant specialists, disease-specific experts for non-transplant therapies, third-party payers and patient advocates.  They provide guidance for transplant clinicians, referring physicians, patients and payers.
