Required Reporting of Transplant Outcomes
Delayed as CIBMTR Hones Electronic Systems
Required reporting of transplant outcomes for the C.W. Bill Young Cell Transplantation Program has been postponed to later this year. A launch date will be announced shortly.
Initially scheduled for implementation in July, the new electronic data collection system, FormsNet2.0, has been temporarily postponed for the U.S. Stem Cell Therapeutic Outcomes Database (SCTOD). The reason for the delay is to ensure that the transition is as smooth as possible for transplant centers, according to an announcement by the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Registry (CIBMTR).
“While systems for data collection are essentially ready now, important tools that will add value for transplant centers and make the electronic programs more user-friendly are still being developed,” the CIBMTR said. “In particular, planned components of the system that will allow data to be returned to teams need to be fully functional before system release. This is especially important for teams currently using StemSoft software, since they will be dependent on these applications to integrate the StemSoft and FormsNet2.0 functions.”
After an evaluation of input from various users and the needs of CIBMTR-participating centers, the CIBMTR decided it was in everyone’s best interest to delay the launch of the program.
“Intense efforts are being focused on completing the development of robust data reporting tools, and the CIBMTR appreciates the patience of transplant centers as it moves closer to a launch date,” the CIBMTR said. “The new date will be announced, with at least four weeks notice prior to launch of the new system.”
The CIBMTR is providing periodic e-mail broadcast announcements to all its centers. Last week the centers learned that samples of new CIBMTR forms are available at www.cibmtr.org in the Data Collection section. Though not yet meant for data entry use, the samples can be previewed to help staff prepare and allocate resources for the launch of FormsNet 2.0 and simultaneous release of the new forms. As samples, they remain subject to minor changes. When final forms are available, they will be posted and transplant centers will be notified.
Centers will be required to begin using the new forms, or their electronic representation, within two months of notification, the CIBMTR said.
