Transplant Reimbursement Issues
Discussed with Payers Group
An ASBMT delegation met with representatives of third-party payers in July to discuss the measurement of clinical outcomes, evidence-based reviews, transplant center accreditation and standardized requests for information.
The meeting was organized by the Payers Group of the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) and included representatives of Aetna, Blue Distinction Centers of Transplant, Blue Shield of California, Cigna LifeSource, Interlink, LifeTrac/Allianz, MultiPlan, PacificCare, United Resource Networks and Wellpoint.
Representing ASBMT were:

Roy Jones, chair of the ASBMT Committee on Hematopoietic Cell Transplant Quality Outcomes and the ASBMT Steering Committee on Evidence-Based Reviews
- Peggy Appel, chair of the Steering Committee for the ASBMT Administrative Directors Special Interest Group
- Alan Leahigh, ASBMT Executive Director
- Robert Krawisz, ASBMT Associate Executive Director
The meeting with the Payers Group has been held biennially since 2002.
