Patients Served by NMDP
Grew by 20% in Past Year
The number of patients served by the National Marrow Donor Program and its network increased by more than 20 percent in the past year. NMDP-facilitated marrow and cord blood transplants exceeded 3,200 during the fiscal year ending Sept. 30.
Cord blood shipments through NMDP more than doubled for the year, now representing 14 percent of total transplants.
The number of minority patients served by the NMDP increased significantly in 2006, growing by more than 18 percent.
The percentage of patient searches that proceed to transplant also increased this year, while the average time to find a matched donor declined.
