Guidelines Issued on Public

vs. Private Banking of Cord Blood

At the request of the ASBMT Board of Directors, a committee has completed a study and report of data and expert opinion on public and private banking of umbilical cord blood. Its conclusions, including recommendations for parents, appear in the March issue of Biology of Blood and Marrow Transplantation.

An accompanying ASBMT position statement provides five recommendations to guide health professionals and parents on the collection and preservation of umbilical cord blood for personal use.
